The Table Mountain Beauty (Aeropetes tulbaghia), featured on the cover of Metamorphosis Vol 21 no.4, has been nominated by LepSoc to become South Africa’s National Butterfly. It is a large and attractive butterfly, widespread throughout South Africa's mountains and endemic to SA and Zimbabwe. It is the only pollinator of many of our wild flowers including the Red Disa (Disa uniflora).
Metamorphosis - Official Journal of the Lepidopterists' Society of Africa
Metamorphosis, now in its 40th year, is published by the Lepidopterists’ Society of Africa (LepSoc Africa www.lepsocafrica.org), and contains research articles on any aspect of the scientific study of African Lepidoptera. Its main objectives are to contribute significantly to the overall knowledge of the diversity, taxonomy, evolution, biogeography (distribution), life histories, habitats, ecology and conservation of African Lepidoptera.
Metamorphosis was originally published in 1982 as a printed journal for LepSoc Africa members and other paying subscribers until 2012 (ISSN 1018-6490). Online publishing of articles as PDFs on this website began with Volume 23 in 2012 (ISSN 2307-5031). From 2016 onwards it has become a fully Open Access journal.
