Notes on the genus Chrysodeixis Hübner, [1821] on St Helena Island (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae).

Abstract :

Until now, only a single species of Chrysodeixis has been reported from St Helena Island: Chrysodeixis dalei (Wollaston, 1879). The authors were able to confirm the existence of three species of the genus on the island: Chrysodeixis acuta, C. chalcites and C. includens. The barcoding of the moths and the examination of the genitalia structure have shown that Plusia dalei Wollaston, 1879 syn. nov., is not an endemic species, but a synonym of the American Chrysodeixis includens (Walker, 1858).

A new subspecies of Papilio (Princeps) pelodurus Butler, 1896 (Lepidoptera: Papilionidae: Papilioninae) from several mountains in northern Mozambique

Abstract :

A new subspecies of Papilio pelodurus Butler, 1896 is described that was collected from two mountains in Zambezia Province, northern Mozambique, over the course of several years, between 2007 and 2012. The specimens collected show distinct differences from the nominotypical species from Malawi and provide sufficient morphological evidence to merit the description of a new subspecies. The specimens collected are also the first records of this species from Mozambique and therefore add another species to the country list.

Title :

Junonia agnesberenyiae sp. nov. (Lepidoptera, Nymphalidae, Nymphalinae) from the Nimba Mountains (Guinea), West Africa

Abstract :

A new taxon of Junonia near ansorgei was collected by the author during a butterfly survey in the Nimba Mountains, Guinea in 2017. Careful comparison with a series of J. ansorgei from various localities throughout its distribution, including examination of the COI gene of both taxa revealed that the two are not conspecific and the new species is described as Junonia agnesberenyiae sp.nov. J. agnesberenyiae inhabits the montane slope and gallery forests of the Nimba Mountains above 1500 m (asl.) and is probably endemic to the montane zone of the Guinea Highlands and thus the new species is of conservation concern.
