Abstract : Welcome to the Early Summer edition of African Butterfly News! Without wishing to be a prophet of doom, the early part of the 2018 – 2019 season has been fairly disastrous. With one or two exceptions, butterfly numbers have crashed and there are no records whatsoever for several rare spring Lycaenidae throughout the country. Hopefully the situation will improve, but please help me monitor the situation by sending speciescounts to the Butterfly Index – refer to the FEATURES section of this newsletter. Despite the relative paucity of butterflies, I’ve received a record number of contributions for this edition of the newsletter – thanks to all the contributors!
